Originating from candid, high-glamour photography styles popularized by paparazzi and celebrity culture, Foto Chika in Bandung has been localized into a tool for youth self-presentation in cafes, creative hubs, and street fashion locales. Through ethnographic observation of Instagram accounts, Bandung’s café hopping culture, and photography service providers, this paper argues that Foto Chika functions as a mechanism for constructing aspirational identity, consuming urban spaces as entertainment stages, and fostering a micro-celebrity economy.
