Scintilla Magneto Manual _top_ Guide
This is how you install the unit on the bike/engine.
Adaptation of aviation-grade magneto technology into industrial, agricultural (Vertex series), and marine sectors. 2. Fundamental Operating Principles
This guide serves as a comprehensive manual for understanding, maintaining, and reviving these mechanical masterpieces. 1. Understanding the Scintilla Design scintilla magneto manual
When the primary current reaches its maximum intensity, a mechanical cam forces the breaker points open. This abruptly breaks the primary circuit.
A Scintilla magneto is a highly reliable, self-contained ignition system. It generates high-voltage sparks for internal combustion engines without an external battery. Originally developed by the Swiss company Scintilla AG and later acquired by Bendix, these magnetos became the industry standard for aviation, marine, and vintage industrial engines. Rotate the magneto drive shaft by hand until the internal timing marks align (the position where the points are just opening for Cylinder No. 1).
The Scintilla magneto is a precision-engineered ignition system designed to provide reliable and consistent performance in various aircraft and vintage vehicles. Its robust design and high-quality components ensure optimal engine operation, even in demanding environments. Fundamental Operating Principles This guide serves as a
Many vintage Scintilla magnetos feature oil cups with small felt wicks. Add 2 to 3 drops of high-grade, light machine oil (SAE 20 non-detergent) every 50 to 100 hours of operation. Do not over-oil, as excess lubricant will ruin the distributor block and carbon brushes.
Contains the primary winding of the coil (few turns of heavy wire).
Perform a comprehensive teardown inspection. Replace the breaker points, condenser, oil seals, and bearings. Inspect the carbon brush for wear and spring tension.
Essential for starting; the manual will guide you to listen for an audible "click" during the compression stroke, indicating the coupler is generating the necessary hot spark at low RPM.
